German version
Hello dear visitor!
Let's talk about the most important facts of my life:
Who am I?
My name is Martin Scherbaum.
Where do I come from?
I was born on 16th of decembre 1967 at 7:15
in the morning in Ebern as 1st
child of Hannelore and Alfons Scherbaum. I guess there will never be a homepage of my parents but
you may find the homepage of my brother Stefan just aside. As of the moment of my birth I am a real sagitarius with a sagitarius ascendent and my moon being in the gemini. Besides this it's almost unimportant that I got a venus in scorpio and my mars in aquarius...
I spent lots of my lifetime in Drosendorf, a part of Memmelsdorf community, which itself is a suburb of Bamberg. Unfortunately there is no homepage of Drosendorf, but in the web you find at least the restaurant of Drosendorf, Brewery Göller... At least something :-)
Where do I live?
Though being a real Franconian, since more than 3 years (already!) I'm living in Hessia ("Ei, die Hezze"), first for two years in Wiesbaden-Bierstadt
(if you would continue for about 200m on this
Picture you'd be right in front of my former flat...), these days I live in Friedrichsdorf near Bad
Homburg. Before going to Hessia, I lived first in in Erlangen, then
in the southern part of Nuremberg (you known, this is where finest German Lebkuchen and the "Christkind" come from :-)), which is a nice city in my Franconia .
What did I learn?
My university career started with a masters studies in "Latin, Galloromanic Philology
and Greek science" at Bamberg University. At that time
I was given a scholarship from European ERASMUS program which brought me to the
Université
de Liège in Belgium for 10 months. After that I turned to studies in computer linguistics.
My studies at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität
Erlangen I finished in february 1996 with an academic degree of a Magister Artium Linguistische Informatik,
Germanistische Linguistik und Galloromanische Philologie. You may find my master's thesis on the server of the Abteilung
Computerlinguistik as
PDF. So, after all, I'm still a computer linguist...
Which were my jobs?
At the time of my studies in Erlangen, I already had my own "company" which did installation, software development, training for personal computers. In parallel I worked at univerity's (Computer Pool of PhilFak, Germanistik),
I held courses in word processing and computer usage, I developped software (amongst others for Electronic Publishing Partners,
Nuremberg). I even screwed together computers and configured them to the needs of my customers :-)
After finishing my studies I worked for more than 4 1/2 years in Nuremberg for
SuSE, the leading Linux distributor worldwide.
I started as technical support agent and software developer, continuing as department leader of
technical customer support, in the end being head of the department of internal IT, the system administrators' boss... I left SuSE to the end of 2000.
Since I like programming in TCL/TK - an easy to learn, easier to use and very complete script programming language, I worked in 2001 with Internetwork AG in
Wiesbaden as a software developer where I supported developing the company's own
network load testing tool sm@rtTEST.
Naturally under Linux resp. UNIX. Even if I live for the slogan
Life is too short for reboots, I may not be able to avoid using
Windows from time to time, in fact this is what I'm doing now. But as there is Linux there is always a nice and correctly working OS around to do real work...
From april 2002 to september 2007 I worked for Linotype (formerly Linotype Library) in "Bad Homburg vor der Höhe"
(what a name for a city!) as head of the IT department. So, if you do not already know
about "Helvetica" or if you want to know where
"Helvetica" comes from, then have a look on
the Helvetica page.
BTW: I'm very proud of www.linotype.com. My people and me built it up...
Since 7th of october, I am a certified NLP practitioner. If
you want to know more about NLP, just jump to my Bernhard Tille's (my NLP trainer) home page.
What am I doing in the moment?
Currently, I'm in finding a new orientation and new
challenges. So, if you got a respective idea, just write me an eMail...
What do I like to do?
- On sundays you may find my in my favorite cafe,
Alberts Kaffeehaus in Erlangen for my Bauernfrühstück (when I am in the Nuremberg region), otherwise you got a good chance to find I'm from time to time in "Classico", "Alex", "Finale" or
Cafe "Maldaner" in Wiesbaden. Or in "Alex" in Frankfurt.
- I like going to the movies in Kinopolis
at Main-Taunuszentrum. Unfortunately there are no real cinemas in Wiesbaden...
- Where you found my in former times: E-Werk in Erlangen, for dancing and eating hot chili con carne...
- BTW, there is a good chili con carne in Smile, also in
Erlangen.
- If you're looking for a good chinese meal have a look at
"CHINA-RESTAURANT PEKING Ludwigstr. 55" (I liked most 209 for lunch).
They do not have a website yet. :-|
- Want to have a real good beer in Nuremberg? Then you have to go to
Barfüßer!
- Where I bought most of my computer hardware in Nuremberg
K+K Computer, since they are fast, good and
got fair prices.
- In my spare time I'm (still) webmaster of http://www.exsuse.de, a
website for former SuSE employees.
- TCL, "mehrä sog i neet": TCL/Tk, TCLkit by Jean-Claude
Wippler,
ActiveState, Home of ActiveTcl
